The Sun was shining, flags were waved, whistles blown, music played and pupils danced – everyone had a great time at the 2015 Burnt Oak Festival and Parade on Saturday 19th September.

Woodcroft was joined by our fellow connectED partnership schools; Barnfield, Broadfields, Colindale, Goldbeaters and The Orion, in the procession from Edgware to Silkstream Park. With music supplied by our very own Mr Raw, everyone who joined the parade danced their way through the streets of Burnt Oak.

The schools then put on some amazing performances on the festival stage. Woodcroft’s guitar group got things off to a great start with an accomplished set; singing and playing with such confidence. J Rock Dance Club later wowed the audience with their latest composition.

The Nutmeg Community guys who were hosting the proceedings on the stage had fun with all of the schools getting everyone up to dance. No one was safe – including Headteachers!

In a climax to the event all of the school choirs came together on the stage to perform ‘Everyone Belongs’; a fitting end to a first event with our connectED partnership schools.

Well done to the festival organisers from All Together Better Burnt Oak! Thank you to all of the staff and parents who supported the event and helped make it such an excellent day! Click here to view our Festival Photo Gallery

Greg Sinclair – Artist Residency

‘All Ears’ music project at Woodcroft

Greg Sinclair Artist Residency 21.09.2015 – 5.11.2015

unicorn schoolsAs part of our Collaborate Partnership with the Unicorn Theatre, award winning musician and performance artist Greg Sinclair will be joining Woodcroft for 6 weeks to lead an exciting musical residency project called ‘All Ears’.

Greg promises to leave a legacy for new ways to explore music within the school! He will work across every year group creating a range of music making and listening experiences. Greg will explore the different aspects of how we listen? What we listen to? Who we listen with? And, what types of music we can make to listen to?

We can look forward to some exciting and inspiring music making!

About Greg Sinclair…

greg sinclair 1

Greg began his career as a cellist and composer before branching into theatre and performance art, much of which is created for children and young audiences. His latest piece, ‘I Do, Do I’ was part of the Brighton Festival.  He says that he ‘is inspired to learn from the creativity, energy and imaginative scope of children.’

This is a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to collaborate with a renowned artist – Follow Greg on his musical journey at Woodcroft in the ‘All Ears’ Journal by clicking here…Artist-in-Residence-Greg Sinclair_edited-3

Barnet Sports Award Success

BPSSWoodcroft received accolades at the 2015 Barnet Sports Awards on Tuesday 8th September!  We were recognised in two categories at the prestigious event hosted at Middlesex University; The School Team Of The Year and the School Games Award!

In the hotly contested team award our J Rock dance club came away with the Runners Up certificate. Mrs Clarke and Mrs Hurley were extremely proud of the club who have now been shortlisted two years running! This s a fantastic achievement for our outstanding dancers. Our certificates were presented by Fil Kamps, Great Britain deaf footballer who also plays for Fulham FC and captains the University of Middlesex team.

Ms Charalambous also came back to Woodcroft for the evening and joined us as we received a Gold Award for school sports and games. This is the highest accolade available to schools and is recognition of the excellent physical education and sports provision available at Woodcroft!

Leavers Balloon Found!

We have had a surprise email…Red-Balloon 2

Hi
I found your balloon in Colchester whilst out walking with my dog Willow.

We found it on Ministry of Defence land called Middlewick Ranges which is on Mersea Road, post code CO2 8QY.
Kind regards
Sheryl
On the last day of term our Year 6 pupils release the helium balloon from their Leavers Ball. We added a label asking for the finder to contact the school. This year the balloon had travelled over 70 miles when it landed near Colchester; the furthest place that it has ever been found.  The map below shows the location that Sheryl and Willow came across our red ballon – many thanks to them for taking the time to get in touch.

Secondary Transfer 2016

Year 6 pupils and parents are now making important decisions about their choice of Secondary School for next year when they move on from Woodcroft. The online application system is now open and all parents are encouraged to complete their forms electronically. Today pupils brought home a letter and pamphlet that further explained the process. Copies of these documents, including a link to eAdmissions,  have been uploaded to the Secondary Transfer page of our school website – click here for more information.

During October we will be opening our Computing Suite for Y6 parents to complete their forms with support from school staff if required. Opening times will be advertised later this  month. Mr Tallon is also happy to discuss any queries or concerns with parents.
