Example calculation of the salary for a term time only employee:
For a typical TA the full time annual salary is £19336
This annual salary is then pro rata based on hours worked per week. For example at Woodcroft the standard TA contract is for 27.5 hours per week out of a possible full time equivalent of 36 hours.
Therefore:
The full time annual salary of £19336 divided by 36 ( full time hours) and then multiplied by 27.5 (actual hours). This is equal to £14770 (the annual salary for 52 weeks)
However:
TAs only work during term time, and term time only employees are paid for 40 weeks per year (plus 3.45 weeks to allow for holidays).
The salary is then further pro-rataed:
The £14770 is divided by 52.14 (a full year) and then multiplied by 43.45 (the working year).
(52.14 is 365 days divided by 7)
The actual salary is £12,308
To summarise:
In the example above, a term time only employee working 27.5 hours per week would earn £12,308 per annum. This is then paid in 12 equal monthly payments across the year and subject to tax and NI.
